'Flight of Dragonflies' - The simple delight of watching
dragonflies perform their aerial magic over a quiet pond is captured
here in this exquisite piece.  Lilypads and flowers intertwine with pond
reeds as the surface of the pond reflects a clear summer sky with our
intricately etched dragonflies resting on the reeds.  Each vein in the
dragonfly's wings has been painstakingly engraved.  The dragonflies
are rendered here in anatomically correct precision.  The wings are
finished in a holographic multi colored application resembling the sun
reflecting on their surface.  Shown here with a handmade eucalyptus
mat.  Mat size is 8 x 10, image 4-1/2 x 6.

'Koi Pond' - This is an exceptionally beautifully detailed print with each
scale on the kois' back and each ray in their fins rendered in raised relief.
Every petal in the lily blossom is displayed in perfect form.  Appearing to
float above the surface of the pond each lilypad rests on the surface as the
koi navigate between them. There is a soothing symmetry to the composition,
balanced by the inspiration to the artists' eye as he sees the flow of nature
around him.  Bring the gentle flow of these swimming koi into a room in your
home for a serene focal point.  Mat size is 8 x 10, image size 4-1/2 x 6 inches.

We at Rivergate Gardens are very excited to be able to offer the artwork of Alan and Rosemary Bennett. The
Bennetts have both been producing their award winning natural sculptures since graduating with a Masters in Fine
Arts from Ohio State University.  Busy most of the year attending juried art shows around the United States,
they usually create enough pieces just for their shows, however by special arrangement they have been gracious
enough to allow us some of their work to offer here to you.  Each piece is sculpted by hand and finished in an array
of Western and Eastern glazes that has taken them years to perfect.  The Bennetts are active divers and derive
their art work from their love of nature.  Each piece is a unique one-of-a-kind. There are no two alike. The pieces
we show here are all we have.  Enjoy, they are beautiful!

Hand Carved Talismans
Our hand-carved spirit of nature talismans are beautiful to behold and an enduring focal point in
any room.  Carved from ancient fence posts, they possess an inner light and warmth from the heart
of the wood.  No two ancient fence posts are the same, therefore each piece is unique.
The facial designs come in two characters: Old Man Mountain and Odin, the Norse God of Wind.
'Old Man Mountain' - Meticulous carving and
talismans.  He can welcome visitors into your home
from your entrance way or watch over the room in
which you place him.  The character of the facial
wood is totally unique.
'Odin' - Wonderful detail has been worked into the
curling and flowing of Odin's hair and beard.  You can
almost see the wind blowing through his likeness.
Ancient Norse tradition has Odin creating every
breath of wind we feel on Earth...don't rile the wind
god!  Each carving is true to character, while each
piece of wood is unique.  The carvings range from 9
to 14 inches.  Please click picture to enlarge.

'Loon On Pond' - Certainly the most hauntingly beautiful
sound one will ever hear on a tranquil summer evening down by the
lake is the call of the Loon. Once heard it is never forgotten, it
seems to go right to a primordial memory bank and register with
ancient thoughts. The positioning of the pickerel grass in front
and the Aspen leaves behind the Loon give the work a distinctive

'Barn Owl' - Once a common bird in North America, but now quite
scarce due to loss of habitat.  The Barn Owl hunts rodents by night
and prefers to spend it's days in old barns or abandoned buildings,
hence it's name.  Easily recognized by it's heart shaped face, small
dark eyes and long legs. The Lim's have captured this beautiful bird
of prey  in exacting detail. The 3-D etching shows of especially well
in the fine lines of the owls feathers.  The image size is 4-1/2 x 6
inches.  Standard mat only.

Heavenly Sun & Moon - In the 1950's a talented Haitian
blacksmith, George Liataud,  began creating steel drum
sculptures. Many talented artist have followed in his footsteps
creating these amazing pieces by hand cutting each design with a
mallet and chisel. This sculptural style is so impressive that
examples of it hang in the Mueseums of Modern Art in Paris
and New York.  Heavenly Sun & Moon is our largest piece at
24".  It represents the cosmos as it appears everyday, the sun
and moon together with the stars, as they are always, even when
we can't see them. Just as in life, we are all together, even if we
can't see it.  Indoor or outdoor use.  Each piece is handmade,
so they vary slightly.  24" in diameter.

Rivergate Gardens is honored to be able to offer you the art work of master
engraver Chong Lim and his wife, master paper maker and print maker Judi Lim.
Shortly after graduating from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design
Chong developed his unique technique for print making.  He makes his own soft
metal plates, then with his self designed hand made chisels and engraving tools, he
carves,
in reverse, the image that he has drawn. He then makes a positive
fiberglass mold for each component in the design.   One element of the design,
for example, just the koi in the print to the left, would be run through their 1929
customized press.  The paper is run through the press as many times as it takes
to develop the right embossing showing the great raised relief detail of the
carving.  When each element has been embossed they then color each element
individually, one at a time,  koi, lilypad, lily flower,  using hand made pigments Chong
and Judi developed.  Once one of the elements has been colored it is run
through a heated plate on the press to adhere the pigments one at a time to the
embossed print. After the coloring of each pigment is complete, they hand paint
the remaining colors.  Each print is individually made, one at a time.  As each work
of art is a one-of-a-kind no two of the Lim's artwork are the same.
Carrying on the enduring tradition of steel drum sculptures first started in the 1950's, and now proudly displayed in
the Museums of Modern Art in Paris and New York, the pieces we offer here allow you to share the intrinsic
primitive life vibration each work of art radiates.
